Conservative leader David Cameron joined Surrey MPs Jeremy Hunt and Anne Milton at the Royal Surrey County Hospital to show his support for the Save the Royal Surrey campaign. After taking a tour around the hospital’s threatened A & E unit, Mr Cameron warned that losing the Royal Surrey’s A & E unit would lead to increased journey times for ambulances and would put lives at risk. He stressed the importance of decision-making at a local level and said that local people should not be penalised for the Government’s inefficient management of the health system and the resulting deficits.South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt said: “David Cameron’s visit highlights the importance of the fight to save the Royal Surrey from cuts and closures and makes it all the more unbelievable that Patricia Hewitt cannot find the time to come and see for herself the great work that goes on here at this hospital. ""David has now added his voice to the campaign to save Surrey's hospitals and we will continue to put pressure on the Department of Health, the SHA and the PCT until the concerns of local people are listened to.”
