The constituency of South West Surrey covers most of the Waverley district of Surrey (excluding Cranleigh) and includes the towns of Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere. Waverley has a population of around 116,000 people.
The constituency itself came into being at the 1983 general election, largely replacing the former Farnham constituency. The seat was held by Virginia Bottomley from the 1984 by-election until her retirement at the 2005 UK general election when Jeremy took over. Conservative Maurice Macmillan MP held the seat prior to the Rt Hon Virginia Bottomley.
