South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt and Guildford MP Anne Milton have expressed serious concerns with the way that the Surrey Primary Care Trust is carrying out its review of healthcare services in the County.During a meeting with Surrey MPs yesterday evening, Chris Butler (Chief Executive of Surrey PCT) and Douglas Robertson (Chairman of Surrey PCT) again refused to confirm that clinical outcomes would be taken into consideration during the review. They also admitted that the travel time model being used by the PCT did not model traffic during peak hours.Chris Butler explained that the three main services under review were accident and emergency, paediatric and maternity services. He also confirmed that the two most likely options were a reduction in services at the Royal Surrey County Hospital or cuts to St Peter’s Hospital at Chertsey.Jeremy said: “It is extremely worrying that the leadership of the PCT continue to equivocate over including clinical outcomes as key criteria in deciding how to resolve this crisis. This suggests they suspect clinical outcomes will get worse, not better following the changes, but they intend to press on regardless for financial reasons. How many lives will their bureaucratic obfuscation cost?"" Anne said: “I am staggered that the PCT have not taken account of rush-hour traffic as part of their review – this is madness. We all know that the roads in and around Guildford can be congested, but it’s many times worse in rush hour. The fact that the PCT’s ‘spin-doctor’ was late to a meeting with Surrey MPs because she was stuck in traffic only continues to highlights how flawed this review is.”
