HUNDREDS of signatures have already been collected by Monkton Lane campaigners who are against the proposals which could see a quarry located in their village. The campaign led by Jeremy Hunt MP, with the help of local campaigners Gillian Beel and Sam Pritchard, is gathering pace as many people in Weybourne and Badshot Lea realise the potential effect a quarry could have on their lives.Jeremy said: “No one wants a quarry located on their backdoor step. However there are particular reasons why the Monkton Lane site would be totally inappropriate. Not only is it in the heart of a dense residential area but it is also located in the middle of the so-called ‘Strategic Gap’ which is a vital green breathing space for residents of North Farnham. “The level of support on this issue has been immense and we will continue to fight the Monkton Lane proposal in the hope that council planners see sense and remove it from their Draft Minerals Plan.”Campaigner Gillian Beel reiterated Jeremy’s thoughts by thanking everyone who had already signed the petition which has been circulating the two villages. She said: “To build a quarry in Monkton Lane would ruin the two villages of Weybourne and Badshot Lea. I will do all I can to stop it happening.”Petitions have been sent out to everyone who attended the public meeting on June 2 in Weybourne Village Hall. Signatures are also being collected at Weybourne Post Office and at Cannon’s Health Club, in Weybourne Road. It is hoped the petitions will be presented to Surrey County Council.
