South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt and Guildford MP Anne Milton have discovered that a £194,500 hospital directory published by the Department of Health did not even mention the Royal Surrey County Hospital.100,000 copies of ‘Choosing your hospital: National menu - your choice of hospitals across England’ were distributed to primary care trusts to help equip patients with all the information needed when deciding where best to go for treatment. However, it has emerged that the document is far from being a comprehensive list of the hospitals in England as it does not include the Royal Surrey as one of the healthcare options for people in Surrey.Anne and Jeremy are writing to Patricia Hewitt, Secretary of State at the Department of Health, asking if she will add the Royal Surrey to the booklet.Jeremy said: “Why is the NHS wasting money on ""guides"" that do not even include one of the major hospitals in the area? This makes a mockery of a consultation process which we were promised would treat all hospitals fairly. Money should be spent on front line services, not wasteful and misleading booklets.""Anne said: “If the Government really want local people to have real choice then why have they left out the Royal Surrey, is this another means of undermining the Royal Surrey? The damage to morale amongst staff and patients alike continues to cause me considerable concerns. My message to staff, patients and local people is - the fight goes on!”
