LOCAL MP Jeremy Hunt will this week visit two sites in South West Surrey which have been earmarked as potential locations to house quarries. The site visits have been organised by Mr Hunt as a way of demonstrating to Adrian Lynham, Head of Surrey County Council’s Minerals Plan Team, the impact that a quarry would have on Monkton Lane, near Farnham, and on the village of Eashing, near Godalming.Jeremy said: “Locating a quarry at Eashing Farm or in Monkton Lane is a suggestion which is fundamentally flawed. I am entirely against either site being earmarked for a quarry. “While I understand that Surrey County Council has been forced by the Government to find potential quarry sites, I think that keeping either Eashing or Monkton Lane in the Minerals Plan would be nothing more than a grave mistake.”The site visits are taking place this Thursday (July 27.) Mr Hunt and Mr Lynham will first visit Eashing Farm. They will be joined by Anne Milton, MP for Guildford. Anne said: “Local residents are extremely angry about this quarry proposal. The plan will not be finalised until late 2008 which, ultimately, blights their homes until then. “We all have questions about how long extraction will go on for and how deep they will dig. We all have fears about what will be put in the hole at the end. On top of that, the area is near to a site of special scientific interest and we must know more about the effects there may be on water courses and the ecology.“I am disappointed by the County Council’s consultation. Not only were residents not informed but the first question is very loaded. However, I would urge all residents to respond. ""It is critical that each and every member of all homes writes and makes sure the County Council knows their view.”Jeremy said: “Eashing Farm lies in Anne’s constituency. However many of my constituents are just as concerned about the general impact which it is going to have on their communities. It is vital that Anne and I work together on this to ensure that Eashing, Hurtmore and the surrounding areas have Shortly after the Eashing visit, Mr Hunt will travel with Mr Lynham to the Monkton Lane site where they will be met by a number of residents. The site tour will commence at 5pm.
