JEREMY Hunt MP has joined forces with two local campaigners in calling a public meeting to discuss the Monkton Lane quarry proposals. Plans which could see Monkton Lane turned into a gravel quarry have been unveiled by Surrey County Council and are currently the subject of a six week consultation. Campaigners Sam Pritchard and Gillian Beel believe that Monkton Lane should not be turned into a quarry. They have joined forces with Jeremy Hunt to find out what other people in the area think. “Our villages must be protected from this environmental vandalism. We need your support to stop Monkton Lane being ruined forever,” said Sam, who lives in Weybourne. The meeting is being held on Friday June 2 at Weybourne Village Hall. The meeting itself will form a part of the official feedback process for the consultation. Jeremy Hunt said: “Farnham is already overwhelmed with traffic. Having a quarry at Monkton Lane, with all the lorries going to and from it, would create a nightmare not just for people nearby but for the whole of Farnham. I hope people will come and have their say as part of the consultation process.”The meeting on June 2 will run from 7pm until 9pm. All members of the public and press are invited to attend.
