South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt has welcomed a High Court decision to stop supermarket fruit suppliers Hall Hunter Partnerships from installing polytunnels at Tuesley Farm without planning permission.Local campaigners, with the support of Friends of the Earth, have been fighting to stem the development of several 12’ plastic polytunnels, which can have a damaging effect on the local landscape and the area’s ecology.Jeremy said: ""This will come as the best possible Christmas present for local residents who have waged a tireless campaign against these polytunnels. Everyone understands the need for farmers to make a living, but polytunnels have an enormous impact on both the landscape, the environment and the ecology of an area. It is therefore only right that farmers should have to go through proper planning procedures before putting them up.""The Court decided to refuse Hall Hunter’s appeal because it concluded that the Spanish polytunnels, like mobile homes, did indeed need planning permission.
