Waverley Borough Council was not represented at a vital meeting organised by Surrey County Council in which plans to site quarries in Monkton Lane and at Eashing Farm were discussed. The Waverley Liberal Democrat administration has had to make an embarrassing apology after it emerged the invitation to SCC's meeting had been lost and that no representatives from Waverley attended. The apology was made after Tuesday's meeting of Waverley Borough Council in which Liberal Democrat councillors attacked Surrey County Council for 'failing to invite' Waverley to the important Minerals Plan meeting. A senior Waverley council official was later forced to clarify that an invitation had been received but was not acted upon. The quarry meeting itself was one of significant importance as attendees were discussing the plans to site sandpits at Monkton Lane, near Farnham, and at Eashing Farm, near Godalming. Conservative Group Leader Richard Gates said the latest mistake was one of many which have occurred as a result of the administration's poor management. He said: ""The Lib-Dems have been rumbled. Their policy is to attack Surrey County Council to try to divert attention from their own failures at Waverley. ""I am immensely disappointed by this latest revelation as it seems that this administration really is failing the people of Waverley on the issues that matter. I think many people who are concerned about the siting of sandpits in our area will be very frustrated by the Liberal Democrats latest failure."" South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt, who is campaigning solidly on the issues surrounding locating of quarries in the area, said he too was frustrated by Waverley's no show at the meeting.
