South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt and Guildford MP Anne Milton have welcomed an independent report into the future of the Royal Surrey County Hospital. The report, commissioned by Guildford Borough Council and published by respected think-tank Oxford Economics, has painted a devastating picture of the consequences for local communities and businesses in Surrey by closing the Hospital.Anne said: “The message from this report has backed up what Jeremy and I have been saying for nearly a year; the threat to A&E is driven by a lack of cash because we in Surrey receive less money per person than the rest of the Country. This report shows that the impact of closure will have a devastating blow to the economy of Guildford – lost jobs, lost healthcare and lost lives.”Jeremy said: “This report makes a welcome contribution to the fight for services at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. It confirms the true extent of the damage cuts would cause to our local community and I urge the Surrey PCT to fully consider its implications before making any decisions on the hospital’s future.”
