On Friday July 21, South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt exchanged Westminster life for an afternoon onboard the Hoppa community transport bus in Godalming Jeremy, who is also the Shadow Minister for Disabled People, was keen to visit the organisation which provides an array of transport services.Waverley Hoppa provides fully accessible door to door community transport. Last year Hoppa completed nearly 50,000 passengers trips, 5,000 of those were for wheelchair passengers.Hoppa also provides a door-to-door Hospital Hoppa service to The Royal Surrey County Hospital from Haslemere and Godalming and their surrounding villages.Jeremy said: ""I was absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to visit Hoppa and very impressed with the set-up and the organisation of the scheme. ""It is a very valued community resource and I was particularly impressed by the excellent relationship between the driver and passengers. ""Transport is one of the biggest priorities for disabled people and getting it right is essential. Having access to a flexible and accessible service is vital. I think Hoppa plays a key part in getting that mix right in Waverley.""Since the closure of the transport scheme operated by Godalming-based Discass, Hoppa is now one of the only operators providing accessible transport for disabled people in Waverley.Despite of the blazing heat, Jeremy opted to ride onboard one of the Hoppa vehicles as it went about its route. Mr Hunt assisted the driver and helped service users on and off the vehicle.Hoppa manager Steve Forward : ""We are very pleased that Jeremy Hunt took the time to visit with us. We used the opportunity to demonstrate the range of services we offer and how Hoppa has become an essential part of people's lives. ""We appreciate Mr Hunt's continued support, because for many of our passengers and especially disabled people, Hoppa provides a vital transport link with the local community where there are very few affordable alternatives.""
