Following the announcement that the Liberal Democrats have formally scrapped their pledge to refund £100 to every council tax payer, Conservative Prospective ,Parliamentary Candidate Jeremy Hunt has attacked the decision as a cynical ploy that will further erode the trust of voters in their elected representatives. Jeremy Hunt, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman said:“People in Waverley were promised £100 back “this year” if they elected a LibDem council. Many voted for the LibDems as a result, only to have their hopes dashed when they were told it was a “National Policy” that would only apply if the LibDems were elected to Westminster. Now even that promise has been scrapped, so no one will get their £100. The Liberal Democrats owe the people of Waverley a full apology. Instead of which they have increased their share of the council tax by 6.2%, nearly double that of Guildford.”Jeremy has written to Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy to complain that the Waverley election was won on a false promise. Mr. Kennedy came to Waverley and posed for photographs with a banner advertising £100 back pledge. Jeremy has asked him to investigate why local and national LibDems were able to pass the buck to each other on the £100 pledge when in reality neither will fulfill it. Jeremy Hunt continued:“No doubt Mr. Kennedy will be visiting South West Surrey in due course of the next General Election and I do hope people will draw this episode to his attention”
