South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt has joined forces with Anne Milton, MP for Guildford, to organise a mass rally to protest against the potential cuts in NHS services, including the possible closure of the Royal Surrey County Hospital. The pair have organised the event to take place at noon on October 21 in Guildford High Street. It is hoped that hundreds of people will attend to listen to the speeches which will be put on to drum up support for the cause.Jeremy said: “The Royal Surrey rally in Guildford will be a vital opportunity to demonstrate widespread anger at these ill-thought out plans. To try to close a major district hospital at the same time as forcing through the closure of local hospitals is going to lead to an appalling reduction in service, putting the lives of many elderly residents at risk. What is going on in the NHS right now? The government has got to stop saying ""You're all rich and spending too much in Surrey"" and realise the crisis we have in the making.”Anne Milton, MP for Guildford, said: “It is very important that we all unite to fight against any cuts. Local people need and deserve NHS services that deliver care close to where they live. It would be a disaster if any of these proposed cuts takes place. We are looking forward to seeing as many people as possible.”The rally will start at midday in Guildford High Street.
