SOUTH West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt and Guildford MP Anne Milton have been told by the South East Coast Health Authority that ambulances have been diverted away from the Royal Surrey and towards Frimley Park Hospital. In a letter from the Chief Executive of the Health Authority it was confirmed that ambulances were being diverted to Frimley Park but that “the root cause has yet to be determined”.Jeremy said: “This admission represents a crushing blow to the health authority’s plans to close the Royal Surrey County Hospital. An error like this totally discredits the authority’s own figures related to the number of admissions to A&E and shows that their evidence on the need for such a service cannot be trusted.”“At a time when people are already worried that decisions have been made regarding the future of their local hospital, errors such as this further undermine the public’s confidence in our local health bosses.”Anne said: “It just goes to show what vigilance from the public uncovers. Whilst local people feel that services at the Royal Surrey are under threat, this error will be viewed with some cynicism when there is a fear that Health bosses are attempting to undermine the Hospital.I would urge everybody to let me know when situations like this arise. With all of us working together across Guildford and Waverley and with all the political parties on board, we are a force to be reckoned with!”
