Jeremy Hunt MP has pledged his support to DisCASS, a charity dedicated to supporting disabled people and promoting independent living. Mr Hunt, who is Shadow Minister for Disabled People, visited the organisation on Friday (March 10) to meet with chairman Dominic Webb and his two colleagues Paul de Vere and Andrew Crawte. During the meeting, the DisCASS management told Mr Hunt they were finding it increasingly difficult to secure funding from Waverley Borough Council, Guildford and Waverley PCT and Surrey County Council Adult and Community Care Services. They said they believed their services, especially their popular transport service, may have to be cut if they did not receive a larger funding allocation than already specified.Following the meeting, Mr Hunt said: “DisCASS provides a valuable community service for people with disabilities. It is obvious the charity is very well thought of by its clients.“It would be a great loss if any of their services had to be cut. I have therefore vowed to look into this issue and find out what has triggered this reduction in funding. “Over the coming weeks, I will be helping DisCASS find solutions to these funding issues in the hope we can safeguard this vital community resource.”
