Hunt warns moving Milford Hospital to Farnham would be bad for both Farnham and Godalming communities. Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Jeremy Hunt has warned that he believes a move to Farnham may be the favoured move in the consultation over the future of Milford Hospital. The Guildford and Waverley Primary Care Trust is in the middle of a financial options appraisal that could lead to the closure of Milford Hospital. Jeremy Hunt is worried that the 50 beds may be moved to Farnham, significantly reducing the number of community beds available for Farnham people.Jeremy commented:""Given the overwhelming clinical evidence that Milford's services should not be split over several sites, moving the beds to Farnham is quite simply the cheapest option. But to do so would mean the care of the elderly beds at Farnham would have to be reduced from 42 to 36, meaning that alternative locations would have to be found for 80 Farnham-area patients annually. It would be a huge tragedy for Farnham to be forced to cut its community beds provision so soon after the hospital has been opened.”Beds for 21 psychogeriatric patients, currently financed by Surrey and Hants Borders Trust, would also have to be relocated. He believes that Farnham may be favoured, because of all the options currently being considered, it is the only one that does not require a ""new build"" and keeps the existing services together under one roof.Jeremy Hunt is working with a cross-community group to fight the closure of Milford Hospital. He believes a move to Farnham would be hugely detrimental to the people of Godalming and Milford who would have to travel much further to visit relatives in rehabilitation beds. There are also unanswered questions as to what would happen to Milford's X Ray and MARC day hospital services.
