Following reports over the weekend about a hosepipe ban by Southern Water in Sussex, local MP Jeremy Hunt has written to the Chief Executive of Southern Water to ask him to clarify whether a hosepipe ban may be necessary in the Waverley area of Surrey as well.Southern Water have imposed the ban following the second driest winter since 1904, which has led to low river levels. Although currently the ban is only affecting Sussex, Southern Water also serves all of Surrey, which is why there is mounting concern about whether the ban could spread across the region.Jeremy commented:""Gardening is an important pastime for many people in our area, and I know they will be concerned at the prospect of a hosepipe ban. We need to know where we stand, so I have written to Southern Water to ask them to clarify the situation.""
