South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt and Guildford MP Anne Milton have challenged the Surrey Primary Care Trust over their recent Accident and Emergency response figures. A report released at the Surrey PCT board meeting shows that Guildford and Waverley, which includes the Royal Surrey County Hospital, was the only area in Surrey where ambulances don’t reach the recommended number of critically ill patients within the required 8 minutes. The figures highlight how crucial it is for the people of Guildford and Waverley to have access to A&E services at the Royal Surrey. Without the Hospital, even more people would be placed in danger as ambulances fail to reach them in time.Jeremy said: “At a time when our local area is the only one not to meet the A&E response targets it is unbelievable that the health authorities are still genuinely considering the closure of the Royal Surrey. To even contemplate closing such a vital hospital in light of these figures is reckless and will very likely lead to fatalities as patients are not reached in time.”Anne said: “As each week goes by, we just unearth more and more reasons why the Royal Surrey should stay open. The people of Waverley and Guildford need an A & E in the Town in close reach when there is an emergency.”
