hoppa takes delivery of new electric vehicle

Local community transport provider hoppa has taken delivery of its second electric bus which will help the charity to fulfil its aim to reduce its carbon footprint. The new bus was unveiled by Jeremy Hunt the MP for South West Surrey at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday.

hoppa provides door to door community transport for people who are unable to access ordinary forms of transport. The new electric bus will be added to its existing fleet of vehicles.

The decision to invest in electric vehicles is part of Waverley hoppa Community Transport’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact and promoting sustainable transport options. The new bus is expected to reduce the charity's carbon emissions and to be forty per cent cheaper to run than a traditional diesel bus.

Richard Davies, General Manager at hoppa says: "We are thrilled to take delivery of our second electric bus and to be able to provide our passengers with a cleaner, greener and more sustainable community transport option.

“Although an electric bus costs over 2.5 times the cost of a second-hand diesel, for the sake of the environment and cleaning up the air in our towns and villages, it is a transition we have to make. The journey to net zero is a significant commitment for us as a charity and so we were pleased to have the opportunity to share some of the challenges we face with our MP.”

Jeremy Hunt, MP says: "Over the years I have followed hoppa’s journey with interest and I know that many people depend on it for transport to and from medical appointments, for a weekly visit to the shops and other essential activities. I am delighted to see hoppa taking such a proactive approach to reducing their carbon emissions and to learn more about the barriers that can sometimes slow down progress. It is heartening to see organisations such as hoppa leading the way in promoting sustainable transport options."

The new bus has a range of approximately 150 miles so it will be able to do a school run and service a hoppa shoppa route before it needs to be recharged. Passengers will be able to enjoy a smoother, quieter and more comfortable journey, while also knowing that they are playing a part in helping to protect the environment.
