Following representations by local residents groups, Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Jeremy Hunt has called for Waverley to work with Surrey to implement decriminalised parking enforcement. Surrey is unable to proceed with studies on Controlled Parking Zones until Waverley comes to an agreement with the County Council on enforcement procedures for parking violations.Whilst Surrey has been able to reach agreement with a number of other boroughs in Surrey, Waverley is refusing to discuss the issue. This means that residents are having to put up with the status quo, which for many involves an unacceptably high number of commuter cars parked in residential streets near the Station..Following his survey Haslemere’s Future, in which the issue came up repeatedly, Jeremy has written to Waverley Borough Council leader Chris Slyfield to ask him to look into the matter urgently. Jeremy commented:“Progress has been made in Farnham on a Controlled Parking Zone, but Haslemere is suffering badly. Waverley continues to delay instead of cooperating with Surrey County Council.”County Councillor Christine Stevens is working with Jeremy to try to resolve the issue. Christine Commented: “ Residents are telling us that they are fed up with this pass the parcel game between councils. Quality of life in Haslemere is being damaged by these delays. I hope that Waverley will work with Surrey County Council next year, so we can make progress on this important issue.“
