For the second year running, the independent Audit Commission has officially assessed Conservative-run Surrey County Council as a good council - well led and providing good services to the people of Surrey. Surrey’s continuously high performance in Education comes in for praise - as does the creditable improvements in social care. With their “Surrey in 2020” work, Surrey County Council is leading the way in tackling the big issues that are damaging our quality of life - like congestion and the lack of affordable housing for key workers.County Councillor Maureen Nyazai said: “I want Surrey County Council to be more locally responsive and make every pound count. Our massive change programme, People First, is helping us to improve effectiveness and efficiency, alongside improvements in how we communicate and treat our customers. We intend to make £47m worth of savings over the next three years, whilst improving local delivery. This is a tough challenge aimed at giving local people the best possible service for the lowest possible Council Tax.”
