Cutting beds in Farnham and Cranleigh will harm patient careLocal Member of Parliament, Jeremy Hunt, will be urging the Guildford and Waverley Primary Care Trust at their Board Meeting this week, to take a Surrey wide view of the implications any decision to close local beds will have.Despite assurances from the PCT that the closure of 10 beds at Farnham Hospital and 15 Beds at Cranleigh Hospital is temporary, Jeremy Hunt believes that it is not possible to cut the money spent on hospital services without negatively affecting patient care.Jeremy Hunt commented:“I will be asking the Primary Care Trust to delay any decision until they make the decision on community beds in November. The decision to temporary close beds at both Farnham and Cranleigh Hospitals has been made in an unseemly rush. Despite assurances from the PCT, I do not believe that you can take money out of hospital care without negatively affecting patient care.”
