Meeting called to discuss an area of great importance for the future of Farnham and its surrounding villages. This concerns the plans that have been announced for the so-called Blackwater Valley “Sub-Region.” Guest speakers Dan Hannan MEP, Les Andrews from Surrey County Council and Jeremy Hunt. The meeting will be chaired by County Councillor David Munro at 7.30 pm on 3rd February in Church House, Farnham.Jeremy commented:“Many people have expressed concern about this development. Some are worried that a market town like Farnham has little in common with towns such as Aldershot and Camberley; others worry it could be used to force Farnham and surrounding areas to accept larger housing targets as part of a ""regeneration"" programme; yet others are concerned that it is part of a European regionalisation agenda.”He continued:“ I have arranged the meeting because there has been little publicity about how the new plans would affect Surrey and what the impact would be on our area. In the North the public voted to reject the establishment of a region. In spite of this in the South the regional agenda is continuing to develop. It is therefore vital that we understand the implications of what is happening to ensure we are able to do all we can to fight for the interests of our towns and villages.”What should we do to protect the unique character of Farnham and its surrounding villages? Do we agree with Regional Planning Authority proposals for extra housing? What threats will this cause on our long-term sustainability? What added pressures will there be on the infrastructure?
