In the latest twist over the Libdem election promise to give £100 back to every council tax payer if they were elected, Waverley Borough Council leader Chris Slyfield has admitted he cannot honour the pledge because it would cost £4.2m. Waverley residents are furious about the brazen way Libdems have broken their election promises. Local Conservative Tom Martin presented a petition to Waverley Borough Council in December signed by over 400 local people demanding they honour their pledge, but Libdems have pointed to smallprint they claim allows them to wriggle out of their commitment unless a Libdem government is elected nationally. Furthermore the Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman has refused to apologise for the misleading election literature that has upset so many people in Waverley. ""It's a shame they can't just admit they made a promise that was too expensive to keep,"" commented Mr. Urquhart of Godalming.
