Following the news that pollution in the centre of Farnham is the worst in Surrey, local MP Jeremy Hunt has called an emergency pollution summit. Surrey County Council leader Tim Oliver has agreed to co-host the summit with Jeremy on 25th October in order to turbocharge solutions to a problem that has worried residents of Farnham for a long time.
"Like many parents of young children I really worry about the fumes when you walk through the centre of the town," commented Jeremy. "This problem has gone on too long and it is time we adopted a clear and deliverable plan to tackle it." Jeremy has invited Waverley and Farnham Town Councils to the summit which will look at how the new
Farnham masterplan can help tackle the issue.
Farnham pollution levels were recently found to be dangerously high in some areas despite certain measures that have been introduced over the years. Working with local councils and residents, Jeremy is also looking at a proposal to build off-road cycle tracks in Farnham in a bid to get people out of cars and on to bikes.
